Shatin Magistracy has put pro-government activist Leticia Lee on a good behaviour bond for 18 months after prosecutors abandoned a case against her over the improper use of HK$22,000 she received in election donations.

The binding-over order will not leave Lee, 54, with a criminal record.

The court had heard that she received the money from anonymous donors during the 2016 Legislative Council elections.

The law forbids the use of election donations if they are for amounts of HK$1,000 or more and she should have given the money to charity instead.

Lee was a prominent critic of the 2014 Occupy protests and is also known as a staunch supporter of Hong Kong's police force, which came under fire for its response to the 79-day sit-ins which paralysed parts of the city.
