Two groups of pro-government supporters demonstrated outside the Election Affairs Commission (EAC) on Friday, demanding the commission’s chairman Barnabas Fung step down for failing to stop the primary election held by the opposition camp last weekend.
The groups – one which said they comprise fishermen from Aberdeen and the other saying they are people from Yuen Long – said the primary election is against the elections ordinance as well as the national security law.
Both the groups handed over their list of complaints to EAC officials.
The pan-democratic camp held the primary during the weekend, asking the public to select candidates from different opposition parties to run in the September 6 Legco election.
The Yuen Long group also demanded that that a priority queue should be implemented for elderly voters during the upcoming Legco poll.
They said many elderly people were not able to stand in queue for long hours to vote during the district council election last year, which saw the pro-government side getting wiped out.
The group said not allowing such a queue will hinder the voting rights of the vulnerable people.
