Police said on Saturday that they have detained five people in connection with burglary cases at phone stores, including two people who were arrested following a dramatic car chase on Thursday.

Police shot and wounded a 45-year old male motorist in Sha Tin during the car chase on Thursday, after the man allegedly ignored orders and caused damage and injuries to several road users and cars.

Also in the seven-seater at the time were his 37-year-old girlfriend and their two-year-old daughter.

Officers later seized suspected burglary tools from their car, such as hammers, gloves and pliers, and believe the man and woman were part of a syndicate involved in at least three burglary cases in Tuen Mun and Sheung Shui over the past two months.

Another three people, also believed to be members of the syndicate, were arrested on Friday and Saturday.

One of them is also suspected of drug-trafficking after officers found 15 grams of methamphetamine on her.

The five are currently being detained for allegedly trafficking illegal drugs, burglaries and handling stolen goods worth HK$330,000, which included mobile phones and cash.

Officers said the suspects appeared to have traded the stolen items through underground channels and aren't ruling out more arrests.
