A Sha Tin district councillor has been charged with disorder in a public place in connection with a protest in May.

Raymond Li announced on his Facebook page that he was arrested on Tuesday morning for his role in a rally on Hong Kong Island on May 24 this year.

The 25-year-old said authorities accused him of behaving in a “noisy and disorderly manner” during the protest against Beijing’s plan to introduce a national security law in the SAR.

Li has been released on bail, pending a court appearance on Monday.

The police confirmed the arrest of a man in Sha Tin for alleged disorder in a public place, saying he had acted in a rowdy manner and provoked others under the Canal Road Flyover in Causeway Bay.
