A national security suspect has been accused of advocating Hong Kong independence when he was in detention.
A statement by the Correctional Services Department said officers at Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre recently received intelligence that someone in custody tried to disseminate the message of Hong Kong independence inside the facility, on suspicion of violating the national security law.
Staff began monitoring the man and launched an operation on Tuesday morning, searching him and his cell. They said they found wording suspected of advocating Hong Kong independence on the wall of the cell.
He has since been separated from the other detainees and the case has been reported to the police.
The man was remanded in custody last month, accused of committing the offence of incitement to secession.
The Correctional Services Department says there's zero tolerance towards detainees found to have committed illegal acts, such as disseminating the message of Hong Kong independence.
