Democratic Party lawmakers Lam Cheuk-ting and Ted Hui were released on bail on Thursday after they were charged in connection with two protest-related cases last year.

Lam and Hui were among 10 people who were charged and appeared at West Kowloon Magistracy. All 10 were granted bail.

They were among 16 people who were arrested the day before.

Lam and six others were each charged with rioting at Yuen Long MTR station on July 21 last year.

Lam, Hui and two others were charged over an incident in Tuen Mun in July last year in which a man's phone was seized and pictures were deleted.

For the Yuen Long case, prosecutors told the court that the alleged rioting took place on the station's concourse and police were still looking for about 20 people.

Lam was ordered to surrender his travel documents and report regularly to a police station. The case was adjourned until October 12, with police saying they needed more time for their investigation.

Lam is charged with one count of rioting and one count of attempting to pervert the course of justice over both cases.

Hui is charged with one count of attempting to pervert the course of justice, one count of access to computer with criminal or dishonest intent, and one count of criminal damage in connection with the Tuen Mun case, which has been adjourned until November 6 as the prosecution prepares papers to transfer the case to the District Court.

Speaking outside the West Kowloon court, the two lawmakers appealed for people's support in their pursuit of justice.

More than 100 people were there to voice support for the pair. They said their prosecutions were politically motivated and accused the police of rewriting history over what happened in Yuen Long.
