Democratic Party district councillor Andrew Chiu said on Wednesday that he will lose an ear that was bitten off during a vicious attack last week, despite undergoing surgery to reattach it.
A large chunk of Chiu's left ear was bitten off as he helped to stop a man from fleeing the scene of a knifing incident outside Cityplaza in Taikoo on November 3.
Chiu said the part of the ear that had been reattached has since turned black and is decaying.
Writing on social media, Chiu said he is still in hospital following the attack and doctors will be removing the ear.
Chiu condemned what he described as "murder attempts by pro-government forces".
He is running for a seat in Eastern District in the November 24 polls and will be up against Kacee Ting of the Business and Professionals Alliance.
A 48-year-old man has been charged with assault over the attack on Chiu.
