Several hundreds of defiant protesters were still on the campus of Chinese University in Sha Tin on Wednesday, despite the night of chaos and violent clashes with police there the night before.
The campus had resembled a war zone on Tuesday night as battles erupted between students and police – with tear gas, rubber bullets and petrol bombs flying as night fell.
But the clashes didn't seem to deter many from revisiting the spot on Wednesday morning, which is a bridge that crosses Tolo Highway near the Science Park Road.
Some black-clad protesters wearing helmets and masks were seen on the bridge, setting fire to makeshift barricades.
Petrol bombs and bricks were also stockpiled in the area.
Some students told RTHK that they had stayed overnight at the bridge, because they wanted to protect their campus and keep the police out. They said they were doing this even though they knew they risked going to prison, and their actions were part of a fight for a better future.
Another student said he was continuing to join the demonstrations because he doesn't the efforts of others who took part in previous protests to have been in vain.
At around noon on Wednesday, a group of riot police also subdued a person near Baptist University in Kowloon Tong after some people used bricks and other objects to block roads nearby.
