  • Data of over 1,600 officers posted online: police

The police on Thursday warned people against sending online threats or posting personal data of others, as it revealed that the information of more than 1,600 officers has been unlawfully collected and leaked since June.

At a regular briefing, Superintendent Swalikh Mohammed from the Cyber Security and Technology Crime Bureau said officers have seen multiple online messages that incite violence – including ones that urge readers to stab officers or commit arson, along with tutorials on how to make petrol bombs.

Police say death threats have also been made against officers, and some of their leaked personal data had been used to apply for loans.

Officers also said two men, aged 27 and 36, were arrested for taking part in an illegal assembly in Yuen Long on Wednesday night.

Police and anti-extradition protesters were locked in a tense standoff after a sit-in at the Yuen Long MTR station. During the operation, police said they used one single rubber bullet.

Police also rejected a claim by a man who wrote on a popular internet forum that he was detained at the Beijing airport after a flight from Hong Kong. He had said in a post on the LIHKG forum that he was questioned for hours before he was sent back.

The also alleged that the mainland authorities were tipped off about his arrival by Hong Kong police.

But senior superintendent Kong Wing-cheung questioned whether this account was true, saying they haven't gotten any information about such an incident from the mainland authorities. .

Kong also said Hong Kong Police Force is an independent body and does not pass on information about protesters to its mainland counterparts.
