  • Daily coronavirus cases drop further to 7,685

The number of new coronavirus cases in Hong Kong fell further on Monday to 7,685.

That’s down from 8,037 recorded on Sunday and the third day in a row the tally has stayed below five digits.

Of the new infections, 3,227 were confirmed by PCR tests and 4,458 were reported by people who tested positive via self-administered rapid tests.

Another 168 people died with Covid, including 143 people who passed away at public hospitals in the past 24 hours.

A total of 7,207 Covid patients have died in the latest Omicron-driven outbreak.

A chief manager with the Hospital Authority (HA), Sara Ho, said as the city’s coronavirus situation stabilises and the demand for hospital beds eases, parents who are not infected will now be allowed to accompany their infected children at hospitals.

The HA has been criticised for separating sick children from their parents, who had not been allowed to stay in hospitals with them.

Ho said medical staff will explain to the parents about the risks involved, and seek permission from the Centre for Health Protection before their stay.
