Starry Lee talks to RTHK's Olivia Tam

The DAB party on Wednesday urged the government to take steps to help ‘semi-elderly’ people between aged between 60 and 64, who say they’ve been largely left out of the administration’s welfare policies for the over-65s group.

Party chairwoman Starry Lee said most people between 60 and 64 are retired and are unhappy that the government isn’t doing anything for them.

Lee said as per 2018 figures, there are over half a million people in this age group and her party had also previously lobbied the government for more help for them.

"But this time what make our suggestion new is that we propose a new card designed for them," she said.

The party's proposals include a transport subsidy, health care vouchers and a cut in salaries tax as an incentive to keep them in the labour pool for longer.

Lee told RTHK's Olivia Tam that the government needs to help this age group as those without lot of savings are struggling to survive.
