A 60-year-old cyclist died in Sai Kung on Sunday after he was trapped under a fire truck that appeared to lose control and veer into a parked car.

The accident happened just before 2 pm on Hiram's Highway, near Hebe Haven in Pak Sha Wan.

Footage appeared to show the fire truck veering left, catching the man who was cycling alongside the parked car. The impact was enough to push the car onto the kerb.

Rescuers freed the cyclist from underneath the fire engine but he was unconscious and was later certified dead after being rushed to Tseung Kwan O Hospital.

The private car driver was also sent to hospital after complaining of dizziness.

The 54-year-old driver of the fire engine was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
