  • Crowds gather to remember anti-extradition protester

People gathered in Admiralty's Pacific Place mall on Friday to mark 11 months since an anti-extradition protester plunged to his death nearby.

Scores of mourners laid flowers and lit candles in memory of 35-year-old Leung Ling-kit, who had been hanging banners outside the shopping mall when he died in June last year.

A heavy contingent of police in riot gear was at the scene, telling people to remain in groups of no more than eight and stand at least a metre and a half apart in line with social distancing rules.

There was no attempt to break up the commemoration, and most people moved on after paying their tributes, although some chanted anti-government slogans and messages opposing national security legislation under Article 23 of the Basic Law.

Inside the centre, some people stopped to chant and sing, while one activist waved a flag showing protest slogans while wearing a yellow raincoat similar to the one Leung often wore at protests.
