Health officials on Sunday reported a new cluster of Covid infections that centres on a second bar in Central – this time involving 11 people at the Iron Fairies bar on Hollywood Road.
The new cluster emerged just a day after the Centre for Health Protection (CHP) said around a dozen people who visited the Zentral bar in Lan Kwai Fong came down with the virus.
The CHP's Albert Au said even though the infected patients had all been to either of the affected bars on May 21, the two outbreaks should be unrelated as they haven't found people who've been to both places yet.
He said each bar had some 700 customers that night, and there's a chance that more infections may emerge.
"The earliest case had onset of the disease on 23 May. However, we suspected that some of the cases might not be reported to us yet, or they had not been tested yet," Au said.
"We'll see whether there'll be further cases after the issue of a compulsory testing order."
For the day, a total of 237 cases were reported – 37 of which were imported. There were no new Covid-related deaths.
Meanwhile, two nurses working at a traumatology and orthopaedics ward at Tuen Mun Hospital have tested positive for Covid.
The ward has stopped accepting new patients, and it has rescheduled patients who have appointments over the next few days.
