Health officials on Saturday reported 8,841 Covid cases - the first time the tally has fallen to four-digits in a month.
That's down from 10,405 recorded on Friday.
Of the new infections, 3,884 were confirmed via PCR tests and 4,957 were reported on the rapid test declaration system.
All but six were local cases.
The Centre for Health Protection's, Albert Au, said he's confident that the current outbreak has peaked, noting that daily infections are down from around 70,000 earlier this month.
But he called on people not to let their guard down, saying the number of cases is still high.
He added that it's too early to judge if the latest infection figure signals a further drop from the 10,000-threshold in the last week, or only reflects day-to-day fluctuations.
139 people died with Covid, including a 3-year-old girl who had also suffered a serious form of brain disease.
The Hospital Authority's Larry Lee said the coroner will investigate her death.
Lee said the child had developed a fever and had cramps when she went to Prince of Wales Hospital on March 18, and her x-ray scans also showed signs of pneumonia.
There were four other younger patients, aged between 39 and 59, who died with Covid. They had suffered chronic illnesses like epilepsy, a kind of end-stage cancer, or had had thyroid problems.
