The death tally linked to Covid-19 continued to rise in Hong Kong, with another elderly patient succumbing to the disease on Monday, bringing the total number of fatalities so far to 36.

This is the ninth Covid-linked death recorded over the last three days.

A spokesperson for Tuen Mun Hospital said that the deceased, an 83-year-old man, was chronically ill and was admitted to hospital with a fever on July 9.

His condition deteriorated and he passed away on Monday morning.

Hong Kong is witnessing a third wave of coronavirus cases and the fatalities have jumped sharply after the new outbreaks started in early July.

Hong Kong had recorded only seven deaths linked to Covid-19 till July 5, but the tally has grown five fold since then.

The number of confirmed Covid cases also rocketed from 1,285 cases then and now stands at 3,511.
