The police are investigating a suspected murder-suicide case in which a four-year-old boy might have witnessed the killing of his mother in a flat in Mong Kok.

Officers said they found the body of a 28-year-old woman in a unit on Portland Street on Tuesday. She was found with wounds to her head, neck, and chest.

Police found a knife at the scene.

Her four-year-old son was also found inside the flat, but he was not injured.

Superintendent Ching Chi-yan said the police believe the woman was killed by her husband Sunday overnight after they had an argument about their relationship.

Police said the man, who was not the boy's father, then jumped to his death from a building.

According to officers, the man had arrived in Hong Kong earlier this year on a two-way permit and had been married to the woman for two years.

The police said the case came to light after a friend of the woman reported to them that she had failed to contact her.

The boy is being cared for by the police.
