A government worker died on Friday after being stung by bees while working on Lantau.

Ng Kwok-pui, 64, was among several Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) workers carrying out tree planting work at Chi Ma Wan Peninsula in Lantau South Country Park.

He collapsed after being stung and was airlifted to hospital, where he was declared dead.

Director of agriculture, fisheries and conservation Leung Siu-fai expressed profound sadness over the death.

He said Ng had served in the department for more than 40 years and had been dedicated to his work.

Environment minister Tse Chi-wan and civil service chief Ingrid Yeung both offered their deepest condolences to the man's family, and said officials will make every effort to provide them with support.
