There are now hopes that number of Covid-19 cases in Hong Kong will return to single-digits, again.

Sources said the city is reporting nine new cases on Monday.

If confirmed, that would be the first time in a week that the number of infections is back to single-digits. On August 24, nine new cases were reported and that was the first time since early July that the daily tally had fallen to single-digits, from triple- and double-figures.

Health authorities are expected to announce Monday's figures later in the day.

The government has partially relaxed social-distancing measures as the third wave of the coronavirus outbreak, which erupted in July, showed signs of easing. But health authorities have repeatedly warned that Hong Kong is not completely out of the woods yet, and people need to remain vigilant.

Meanwhile, another elderly patient has died of Covid-19.

An 83-year-old woman, who had been chronically ill, passed away at United Christian Hospital on Monday morning.

The number of dead in Hong Kong linked to coronavirus now stands at 89.
