A man and his three-year-old son are fighting for their lives in hospital after a fire in their Yuen Long home on Saturday night claimed the life of a baby boy.
The condition of the man deteriorated from serious to critical on Sunday, as did that of his elder son.
The mother and their five-year old daughter remain in stable condition.
Neighbours had helped pull the family of five out of their burning home in Treasure Court on Saturday night, shortly after the blaze broke out at around 7pm.
They were rushed to Pok Oi and Tuen Mun Hospitals for smoke inhalation, but the baby, thought to be around 15 months old, succumbed to his injuries.
Firefighters say there doesn’t appear to be anything suspicious about the blaze, and there was no obvious illegal alterations to the family’s 400-square-foot flat.
They say the fire appeared to have started in the living room, and are investigating whether any electrical appliances were involved.
