Health officials have reported one new local Covid-19 infection on Sunday, which is linked to an airport worker who earlier became Hong Kong's first case of the more infectious Delta variant.

The 24 year-old woman, who is a colleague of the man, last went to work and provided customer services at Uptown Plaza in Tai Po on Wednesday.

She was sent to quarantine the next day after being identified as a close contact. She developed a fever on Saturday and was sent to hospital.

Officials said she hasn't been vaccinated and they confirmed on Sunday evening that she carries a mutant strain.

They then ordered a lockdown of Block 10 of Tai Po Centre, where the patient lives.

Her workplace and the places she visited will be put under compulsory testing order.

There are also five new imported infections for the day: two from the UK, two from Bangladesh and one from Indonesia.

All the imported cases carry the L452R mutated virus strain.

Health officials also reported less than five preliminary positive cases.

Hong Kong has recorded 11,917 Covid-19 infections so far, with 211 deaths.
