Clashes between police and students continued at several universities in Hong Kong on Tuesday with roadblocks popping up regularly and tear gas fired several times.
A campus radio channel run by the students of Polytechnic University accused the police of beating up a student representative, Owan Li, outside the institution.
Li, a member of the university council, was merely telling the officers stationed outside the university to stay calm.
On a bridge linking the university to Hung Hom MTR Station, a young woman was treated by paramedics and surrounded by a group of riot police officers.
At Chinese University in Sha Tin, young protesters set up roadblocks and stayed on guard at two entrances of the campus in an apparent attempt to stop police from coming in.
They also blocked nearby Tai Po Road. The protesters said they were angry that a group of riot police had been stationed outside the campus for hours.
A vice-president of the university, Dennis Ng, talked to the protesters and urged them to stay calm. In response, the youngsters demanded him to tell the police to retreat.
At the University of Hong Kong in Pokfulam, protesters also blocked an entrance with miscellaneous objects, but police could not be seen in the area.
Outside City University in Kowloon Tong, police fired rounds of tear gas at protesters who had set up roadblocks with bricks on Cornwall Street.
On Monday, police accused some students of disrupting traffic in areas near their institutions before running back to their campuses. A police spokesman said officers had the power to enter the campuses to pursue them.
