  • CE touts co-location for Huanggang control point

Chief Executive Carrie Lam says co-location arrangements will be introduced at the new Huanggang control point, as part of efforts to improve infrastructure at land boundary control points between Hong Kong and Shenzhen.

Lam said the central government supports the “deepening of co-operation” between the two places, and in her Policy Address said this would also involve the enhancement of the Lok Ma Chau/Huanggang control point.

She said the implementation of co-location arrangements at the Huanggang control point in Shenzhen would release “more than 20 hectares of land at the Hong Kong control point for other uses”.

Co-location refers to housing customs clearance facilities and officers in one location. It’s already used at the high-speed rail link terminus in West Kowloon.

Lam has yet to elaborate on what the 20 hectares of land could be used for, as well as how the co-location arrangement could be carried out.

As for the popular Lo Wu control point, Lam said she is in talks with Shenzhen authorities over its improvement.

The Chief Executive also said her government will draw on the experience of local cars being able to travel to Guangdong on the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge to see whether drivers can also do so through other boundary points with Shenzhen.
