Chief Executive Carrie Lam says the SAR government is working on the establishment of a national security committee as planned under a law being drafted by the central government.

In a statement released by the Chief Executive’s Office on Saturday evening, Lam said she is pleased to see that mainland authorities have seriously considered opinions and suggestions made by the SAR administration.

They have taken into account the actual situation in the city, before they repeatedly revised and perfected the proposed legislation, the statement said.

Lam said the draft national security law has balance the differences between Hong Kong and the mainland, and has made sure the legislation to be imposed on the SAR and local law supplement with each other.

State media reported that a committee shall be set up and headed by the CE – and supervised by the central government – to safeguard national security.

Members will include other top officials like the chief secretary and other key cabinet members and the police commissioner, as well as the head of a police unit to be set up to enforce the national security law also will be a member of the panel, along with the heads of the immigration and customs departments.
