Education sector lawmaker Ip Kin-yuen on Monday demanded that Chief Executive Carrie Lam apologise for her claim that some school lessons are being used to give children "false and biased information", saying she has offended tens of thousands of teachers in Hong Kong.
Lam had told the Ta Kung Pao newspaper that she is concerned that some subjects, such as liberal studies, could have been "penetrated" and that students are being "poisoned".
But Ip said Lam is trying to shift the blame for the government's failures in handing the city’s political crisis onto teachers.
He said the social unrest is caused by the government’s refusal to listen to people’s demands as well as police brutality, and it has nothing do with the SAR's teachers.
"What she has to do is fairly treat all sides and to conduct an independent investigation as demanded by the public," Ip said.
"She has failed in dealing with all these things and tries to put the blame on the education sector. She is not going to shoulder her own responsibility. This kind of approach is bound to fail."
