Pauline Mak talks to RTHK's Candice Wong

The flights attendants' union of Cathay Dragon said on Wednesday that it will raise the matter of female cabin crew having the option of wearing trousers at work when it meets management on Monday.

Female attendants say they should be given the uniform option to better protect them and to enhance their work efficiency.

The union said the requirement for women to wear skirts can be inconvenient at times, such as when cabin crew help passengers with their baggage.

The union's vice-chairwoman, Pauline Mak, said this is the first time it is raising the matter and the proposal could also be useful when it comes to protecting flight attendants from sexual harassment.

Mak told RTHK's Candice Wong that major airlines across the world offer the option of trousers as part of their uniforms for women, but no Hong Kong-based airline has such a policy.

She said they will also be discussing pay rises and roster arrangements during next week's talks with management.
