Chief Executive Carrie Lam was admitted to hospital on Monday night after fracturing her right elbow in a fall at Government House earlier in the evening.
On doctor's advice, Lam remained in hospital for observation and took leave, with Chief Secretary John Lee taking on her duties for the time being.
The fracture was described as minor. There's no word on how long she's likely to be on leave.
Tuesday's scheduled Executive Council meeting and the preceding media session have both been cancelled.
