Cheung Chau's bun scrambling competition has moved up a gear with the annual event witnessing its first-ever "King of Kings" title. It went to Kwok Ka-ming, who became the men's champion for the third consecutive year with 966 marks. He also picked up the "Full Pockets of Lucky Buns" award by grabbing 112 buns.

Kung Tsz-shan won the women's title, scoring 675 marks.

Around 1,800 spectators turned out to watch the contest, that took place early on Monday morning at the Pak Tai Temple playground. It's the traditional blue riband event of the Bun Carnival.

Twelve finalists scrambled up the 14-metre bun tower to snatch as many buns as they could within a three-minute time limit to vie for the titles on offer.

There was also an invitation relay in which three teams from Shenzhen, Zhuhai and Macau competed against seven local teams from Cheung Chau. It was won by the Shenzhen Mountaineering and Outdoor Sports Association.
