Police say they have found the body of an officer who had been missing at sea since a patrol boat overturned on Saturday.
The body of senior inspector Lam Yuen-yee, 37, was retrieved from waters near Tai O on Monday morning.
Police Commissioner Raymond Siu said Lam and three other officers had been chasing smugglers near Lung Kwu Chau and the police boat overturned after being struck by the other vessel.
The officers were trapped underneath the speedboat after the collision, Siu said. Rescuers found the three other officers but Lam was missing.
Marine police, firefighters, and the Government Flying Service had been deployed to look for her.
In a statement, Chief Executive Carrie Lam said she was deeply saddened by the death, offering her deepest condolences to the officer's relatives.
The CE said the government would make every effort to support the family.
Lam Yuen-yee joined the force in 2007 and had been working in the small boat division under the marine regional headquarters.
