Security was ramped up at Beijing's liaison office on Friday, with large water barriers moved into place outside the complex in Western.
Police officers were also posted outside the building.
The move comes ahead of an uncertain weekend in terms of the ongoing extradition bill protests, with police refusing to allow a march planned in Yuen Long on Saturday.
There are calls for people to gather in the town regardless to demonstrate over Sunday night's mob attacks on MTR passengers which left dozens of people injured.
Another protest is planned for Sunday afternoon from Chater Garden in Central to Sun Yat Sen Memorial Park in Sai Ying Pun – not too far from the liaison office.
In the hours before last Sunday night's attacks in Yuen Long, the liaison office was targeted by protesters for the first time during the current political crisis.
Eggs were pelted at the building, paint thrown at the emblem of the People's Republic of China, and graffiti sprayed on the plaque outside.
The SAR and central governments both described the vandalism as a challenge to national sovereignty.
