  • Baptist Uni student mulls taking police to court

A student leader from Baptist University said on Friday that he may take legal action against police officers for "unreasonably" and forcibly arresting him.

Keith Fong had been arrested last week on suspicion of possessing offensive weapons by several off-duty officers in Sham Shui Po.

The leader of the university's student union said he was just buying 10 laser pens for star-gazing for himself and his friends.

He said it's completely legal for him to buy the pointers that can be used in teaching in classrooms, and the pens are not what the police described as "laser guns" that can be harmful to the officers.

He said only one officer had shown his warrant clearly while surrounding and subduing him, and he was trying to run away just because he thought he was met by thieves.

He said one officer had warned him not to escalate the matter, and another one using both hands to assault him on his neck.

Although he has been released by the police unconditionally, Fong said officers had abused their power in arresting him, adding that he's considering lodging a complaint.
