Chief Executive Carrie Lam on Monday spoke out in support of a temporary court injunction against the doxxing and harassment of judicial personnel and their family members, saying they have been the target of unjustified attacks since anti-government protests broke out last year.

"It is sad to see that, during the year, such unjustified attacks have also been mounted on our judicial officers. This is not to be tolerated", Lam said in a speech marking the opening of the Hong Kong Legal Week 2020.

The CE also said respect for the rule of law had been undermined, and urged people to respect court rulings regardless of their political stance.

Chief Justice Geoffrey Ma said in his speech at the same event that politics doesn't have any effect on the independent operation of the city's judiciary.

"It is crucial to understand that this concept, the independence of the judiciary, is not related to politics. It is instead the guiding concept that underlines the way judges discharge their constitutional responsibilities."

"The constitutional arrangement is one of three branches of government. Its role and responsibilities are clearly and unambiguously set out in the Basic Law," he said.
