The government on Saturday warned that anyone who attacked the judicial system “by any means” may breach the national security law.

In a statement, it also said it would not tolerate people who threaten to hurt the family members of judges in an attempt to influence court rulings.

The statement did not specify which judicial officer had been threatened. But it was issued after media reported that Chief Magistrate Victor So received a call on Thursday from a man who allegedly threatened to "bomb" him, his wife and his son.

"The HKSAR government and any law-abiding jurisdiction will not tolerate such violent and illegal acts. Police are taking resolute enforcement action so as to apprehend the culprit as soon as possible and safeguard the city's public peace and safety," the statement said.

“The National Security Law clearly stated that a person who organises, plans, commits or participates in any of the acts by force or threat of force or other unlawful means to seriously interfering in, disrupting, or undermining the performance of duties and functions in accordance with the law by the body of power of the HKSAR shall be guilty of an offence,” the statement added.

It added that anyone who is dissatisfied with court decisions should file an appeal, and “should not criticise judicial officers abusively or even intimidate them”.
