The Fire Services Department says at least 14 boats have been affected by a fire in Aberdeen South typhoon shelter, off Ap Lei Chau Praya Road.

The fire broke out at about 2.30 am, and was upgraded to a No. 3 alarm fire just over two hours later.

Firemen are now using six fire boat monitors, six jets, and mobilising six breathing apparatus team to fight the blaze.

One person felt unwell and was sent to Ruttonjee Hospital for treatment.

Footage from the scene showed the fire to be intense.

Police said the boats were 200 metres off-shore from Ap Lei Chau Praya Road.

Members of the public were advised to close their doors and windows in case they were affected by fumes from the blaze.
