  • Arrests on Admiralty clashes anniversary

The police say they have arrested about 35 people amid protests on Friday night in various districts marking the first anniversary of the violent clashes in Admiralty during the early days of the anti-extradition movement.

Police earlier detained a group of people in Mong Kok and Causeway Bay under stop and search powers, as the protesters heeded online calls to mark the anniversary of the clashes between police and protesters at Legco and the government headquarters.

Exhibitions were held across Hong Kong, where photographs of key protest events in the past year were displayed.

People also chanted protest slogans and anthems. But police officers soon intervened, warning people they were taking part in an unauthorised assembly and requesting them to leave.

Outside the Sogo department store, officers subdued several people.

Democratic Party lawmaker Ted Hui, who tried to intervene, was seen escorted to a police van.
