In a surprise move, anti-extradition protesters attending a rally in Chater Garden have decided to march towards Causeway Bay.
That's after a planned march from Chater Garden to Sun Yet-sen Memorial Park failed to win police approval.
Another group, meanwhile, were said to be staging a separate march in Central.
Demonstrators were attending the rally in Chater Garden when they decided to start marching at around 3:30, via Queensway and Hennessy Road towards Causeway Bay.
And even some of those who joined the march admitted they did not know what the final destination was.
"People just basically disagree with the government," a protester who goes by the name of Alex said. "Whatever direction they're going to, they're going to join in."
"This is the amount of people who would come out, every Saturday and Sunday."
Police earlier beefed up security at the liaison office and Western police station, fearing those buildings may be targeted by protesters
