  • Another general strike possible, says organiser

Carol Ng talks to RTHK's Janice Wong

The chairwoman of the Confederation of Trade Unions, who helped organise Monday's general strike says more such action may be on the way if the government fails to respond to the demands of anti-extradition protesters soon.

Carol Ng said on Tuesday that the CTU estimates that around 350,000 people took part in the general strike. Of these, around 290,000 people attended rallies at different venues while the rest stayed away from work, she said.

"If there is still no proper response from the government and provided different platforms in the movement, and they further discuss non-violent ways ... I presume it is possible to have another strike," Ng said.

She said it was a good learning experience for many Hongkongers who have not taken part in such action before.

Ng told RTHK's Janice Wong that whether there will be another strike will also depend on the level of violence used by police against protesters.
