Ousted lawmaker Alvin Yeung ended his tenure as the Civic Party’s leader on Saturday, with the position remaining vacant as party rules state that only a directly elected lawmaker can hold the position.
Alan Leong will stay in his position as chairman, after the party elected its new leaders at its annual general meeting.
Yeung was one of four pan-democrats disqualified earlier this month, prompting the camp to resign from Legco en masse.
Jeremy Tam was elected a vice chair of the party, replacing Tanya Chan, who quit the party for personal reasons in September after she decided not to stay on as a lawmaker for the extended term of Legco.
The party also ushered in seven new executive council members, five of whom – Shun Lee, Leticia Wong, Jay Cheng, Lee Ka-ho and Michael Yung – are district councillors.
Barrister Jessica Leung, who had planned to run in the cancelled 2020 Legco election, as well as defeated 2019 district council candidate Matthew Wan are also new members to the party's executive council.
