Police arrested prominent pro-democracy activist Agnes Chow under the national security law on Monday evening, a statement on her social media account said.
A message was posted on Chow's Facebook page at around 8.20pm saying a number of police officers had turned up at her home. The post said Chow was still inside and a lawyer was rushing to the scene.
A new post around an hour later said she had been arrested.
"Agnes Chow was arrested on the charge of 'inciting secession' under the National Security Law. The lawyer said the police reached Agnes’s residence with a search warrant issued on August 6," read the message, said to be from an Admin.
Chow's former Demosisto partymate Nathan Law also confirmed Chow had been taken into custody just hours after a series of other arrests under the national security law, which also saw officers raid the offices of the Apple Daily newspaper.
"Agnes Chow is arrested under National Security Law and we are still acquiring information about the content of the arrests. Horrible day," Law said.
On Sunday, Chow had posted on Facebook that "suspicious" men were apparently keeping watch on her home.
