  • Activists prepared for prison, Joshua Wong says

Pro-democracy activists Joshua Wong, Agnes Chow and Ivan Lam said they were prepared to be jailed, ahead of their court appearance on Monday over a major protest outside the police headquarters on June 21 last year.

Chow had earlier decided to plead guilty to inciting others to participate in an unauthorised assembly, and after consulting lawyers, Wong and Lam said they were following her example.

Wong also pleaded guilty at West Kowloon Magistracy to organising the protest, while Chow admitted taking part in the assembly herself.

Wong indicated that he would also plead guilty to taking part in the assembly, but the prosecution said it would offer no evidence against him.

"Perhaps the authorities wish me to stay in prison, but I am persuaded neither prison bars nor election bans nor any other arbitrary power will stop us from activism. What we are doing now is to explain the value of freedom to the world," Wong said ahead of the court appearance.

Chow, meanwhile, said she could soon face her first time in jail and she feels uneasy about her uncertain future.

She urged the public to support other protesters, such as the group of 12 Hongkongers detained in Shenzhen.
